Undoubtedly named for the famous American politician of the same name (U.S. senator from Kentucky 1806-07, 1810-11, 1831-42, 1849-52; U.S. representative and Speaker of the House 1811-14, 1815-21, 1823-25; U.S. Secretary of State 1825-29), this brand originated in Cuba and the Henry Clay factory in Havana is still pictured on the brand's box.
