The Lirac wine region in France used to be known for its rose wines,
but in recent years their enjoyable red wines have been making inroads
among consumers looking for well-priced quality wines. Cabriac has a
long tradition of producing wines in this region; the current owner,
Frederic Duseigneur, is the fifth generation of winemakers in his
family. Because of his love and respect for his vineyards, he grows all
his grapes organically, ensuring the natural balance of his wines and
guaranteeing that his future generations will be able to continue in the
family tradition.
As is traditional in the region, Cabriac blends several different
grapes to make their wine. This means that they can maintain consistent
quality each year. If one kind of grape doesn't mature well in a
vintage, it can play a lesser part in the blend that year. The Cabriac
is packed with red fruit aromas such as strawberries, cranberries, and
red currants; these flavors are complemented by a light smokiness and a
touch of black pepper. It is medium-bodied and has a refreshing acidity
which adds zing to the finish.
