"Graves" means "gravel" in French, which well describes this region's
soils. This makes it a great place to grow wine grapes because it allows
for good water drainage; the vines then chase the water deep into the
soil, where they find the nutrients to develop rich, complex flavors.
The Chateau de Callac is a 50/50 blend of Bordeaux's best-known grapes,
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Cab provides a base of darker fruit
flavors which is complemented by some cherry and black plum aromas from
Merlot. Add a cedary touch and some firmness by aging it in traditional
oak barrels and the Chateau de Callac is ready to go, with a
medium-body, fine tannins, and good length.
