The blending of Syrah and Cabernet is an Australian invention,
bringing the formers acidity and richness together with the structure
and firm tannins of the latter. Chilcas has brought the blend to their
own part of the Southern Hemisphere, Chile, where a long dry summer
makes for slow ripening and lots of flavor. The 2003 offers lots of
blackberry and plum flavors, along with touches of dark chocolate, roast
coffee, and black pepper. It's a full-bodied wine, with firm tannins and
a smooth finish.
