The Casablanca Valley west of Chile’s capital, Santiago, creates a
natural funnel for the maritime breezes of the Pacific, drawing in cool
air and fog, which has made the valley the best place in Chile to grow
refreshing white wines. The coolness preserves the grapes’ acidity while
they slowly develop their rich flavors. You’ll find lots of fruit
flavors in the Chilcas Ranch Chardonnay, especially melon, lime, and
fig, all lightly framed by a touch of clove from some oak-aging. It’s
full-bodied, with a pleasing, dry finish.
