Vaucluse is a Vins de Pays - one of France's larger wine regions which are less restrictive about winemaking practices, giving producers a freedom to experiment with different grapes and techniques. As in nearby Chateauneuf-du-Pape, they often blend several varietals to create complex, well-balanced wines. At Domaine La Begude that means primarily Grenache and Syrah; the former provides fruity aromas like strawberry, raspberry, and cherry, while the Syrah adds touches of white pepper, smoke and spice - especially on the palate. It's a medium-bodied wine, refreshing and well-balanced.
