Californian Chardonnay is one of the great modern wine styles, and
the Hahn Estates Chardonnay is at the center of that style. They grow
their grapes in two vineyards in the Monterey area of California. The
Lone Oak Vineyard is in the Santa Lucia Highlands, where grapes grown in
the cooler air guarantee the freshness of the wine. Meanwhile grapes
from the Ste. Philippe Vineyard on the Salinas Valley floor give the
wine body and breadth.
Hahn makes their wines with the classic techniques developed in
Burgundy, France: Chardonnay's ancestral home. These techniques,
including aging and fermenting the wine in French oak barrels, give the
wine a rich and creamy texture. And since Monterey isn't subject to the
temperamental weather that afflicts Burgundy, Hahn Estates can make
quality wine every year.
The Hahn Chardonnay brings aromas of pineapple, baked pears, and
vanilla to the nose; when you taste it you may even notice a hint of
butterscotch even though the wine is dry and medium to full-bodied.
