Macon lies south from the more famous and expensive regions of
Burgundy, but has a way with the same grape that made Meursault and
Puligny-Montrachet renowned: Chardonnay. Instead of wrapping it up in
oak and aging it for a year or two- an often costly process - winemakers
in the Macon area bottle the wine in a fresh style that captures what
the grape has to say without the fancy dress. In the case of Maison Des
Vignes that means aromas of pears, baked apples, and almonds, plus a
touch of minerality on the palate. It's medium-bodied, with refreshing
acidity to keep it crisp.
