Father and son team John and Peter Wellington bought the site of
their winery 20 years ago and have since replanted the once-dilapidated
vineyards and turned to making high-quality wines. They put their
experience together in 2001 to make their first Merlot; the 2002 follows
on its success, yielding a fresh, enjoyable wine that is still complex
and elegant. It offers aromas of plum, clove, and baking spices, and
these blossom on the palate into fruitier, black cherry notes. It’s
full-bodied, with moderate, well-balanced tannins.
