Usually Bordeaux wines are big, earthy, and heavily oaked; hearty
wines for cool weather. Yvecourt, however, has done something different
to create a lighter Bordeaux, perfect for summer. They have used the
traditional blend of Bordeaux grapes - Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and
Cabernet Franc - and handled them gently in the winery to release the
refreshing fruit flavors of the grapes.
Then, to avoid weighing the wine down, they forego aging the wine in
oak barrels, so there are no woody aromas to obscure the fruit. This
light-hearted spin on a traditional style makes for a wine rich with the
flavors of plums, cherries, and raspberries. It's medium-bodied, and the
tannins are light and unobtrusive. In celebration of this cheerful wine
the makers have given it a beautiful bottled etched with grape leaves
that adds a delightful visual appeal at the table.
